it made all the difference.

i remember how kind he was when we met and how he always remembered my name.
it was as if we were friends, and so i thought that we were.
and that made all the difference.

i remember standing in front of the classroom, letting myself be vulnerable.
sharing the worries i had over a seemingly large list of girls who didn't "like" me.
she came up to me afterwards,
and even though we hadn't really ever spoken before, she told me the she, SHE liked me.
and that made all the difference.

i remember them showing up at my door with groceries and flowers.
simply because i was stressed and out of money and that's what friends are for.
i'd never had friends like them before.
they showed it through their words and actions,
and that made all the difference.

i remember her quickly driving to rescue me in a time of need.
we hadn't spoken in months.
but she still loved me more than i would ever truly understand,
and that made all the difference.

i remember feeling like trust would never come in the form of friendship again.
but then i opened up and let her in.
we laughed and talked for hours,
and that made all the difference.

i remember being so frustrated over his imperfections.
and i let him know it.
and then i promised to speak kinder next time.
he forgave me,
and that made all the difference.

kindness.
that's what matters most.
